Kuberaa Producer Faces OTT Pressure: Prime Video Reportedly Threatens Rs 10 Crore Cut Over Release Delay

The buzz surrounding Kuberaa, the upcoming Telugu social thriller starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Rashmika Mandanna, continues to grow. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sekhar Kammula, the film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025. However, behind the scenes, the production team is reportedly grappling with unexpected pressure from the film’s digital distribution partner—Amazon Prime Video.

In a recent interaction with Gulte, producer Suneil Narang opened up about the mounting challenges in finalizing the film’s release date. According to him, Prime Video, which holds the OTT rights to Kuberaa, has insisted on a timely release, warning of financial penalties if the film is postponed.

Narang revealed that he had requested a slight extension for the release due to pending post-production work. However, his appeal was met with a stern response. “I asked for a July release because some parts of post-production are taking longer,” he explained. “But the platform made it clear—if we don’t meet the June 20 deadline, they would deduct Rs 10 crore from our agreement.”

This revelation highlights the increasing influence of OTT giants in shaping theatrical release schedules, especially for big-budget projects that rely heavily on post-theatrical streaming deals for revenue recovery. It also underscores the tightrope filmmakers walk today—balancing creative completion with commercial deadlines.

Despite the pressure, Narang remains committed to ensuring Kuberaa meets both its artistic standards and contractual obligations. The film, which blends social commentary with intense drama, is expected to showcase strong performances and a unique narrative from Sekhar Kammula.

As fans eagerly await its release, the situation reflects a broader conversation in the Indian film industry about how streaming platforms are reshaping production dynamics and timelines. For now, all eyes are on June 20 as the team works relentlessly to deliver Kuberaa without compromise.

Stay tuned for more updates on this much-anticipated release.
