The much-talked-about sequel to Nag Ashwin’s futuristic epic Kalki 2898 AD will move forward without Deepika Padukone. The announcement was officially made by the production house Vyjayanthi Movies, who clarified that they were “unable to strike a partnership” with the actor for the next chapter.

“This is to officially announce that Deepika Padukone will not be part of the upcoming sequel of Kalki 2898 AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like Kalki 2898 AD needs that much commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.”
The sequel will continue to feature Prabhas in the lead, with Nag Ashwin once again at the helm.

Released on June 27, 2024, the first installment of Kalki 2898 AD featured Deepika Padukone as a lab subject torn between survival and the hope of motherhood.
