Actor Shine Tom Chacko Summoned by Police Amidst Alleged Drug Misconduct Controversy

Kochi | April 18, 2025 — Popular Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko is once again at the center of a growing storm, as allegations of drug-related misconduct continue to make headlines. The Kerala Police have confirmed that a formal summons will be issued to the actor following a bizarre incident involving his alleged escape attempt during a police inspection.
The controversy began on Thursday when Shine reportedly leapt from the window of his hotel room’s second floor in Kochi to evade a surprise check by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF). The inspection was part of Kerala’s ongoing crackdown on drug use, especially in high-profile sectors like the film industry.
While the police have clarified that no drugs were found on Shine or in his possession, officials have expressed concern over his behavior. “There’s no criminal case against him yet, but his attempt to escape during an inspection raises questions that he needs to answer,” said a senior law enforcement officer.
Adding fuel to the fire, actress Vincy Aloshious has submitted a formal complaint to various film bodies, including an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), alleging Shine misbehaved with her on set—possibly under the influence of narcotics. The police stated that if the ICC finds grounds for a cognizable offense, a preliminary inquiry could proceed, even without a direct police complaint from the actress.
Government Backs Vincy Aloshious
In a show of support, Kerala’s Minister for Culture, Saji Cherian, lauded Vincy for her courage. “She’s set an example by coming forward. Ideally, the resistance to such behavior must come from within the industry,” he told reporters in Alappuzha.
The incident comes at a time when the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government is pushing a robust anti-narcotic campaign across the state, focusing heavily on synthetic drug abuse.
Despite the heightened scrutiny, Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh clarified that law enforcement won’t carry out drug raids on film sets indiscriminately. “Action will be taken only when there’s solid intelligence. Film sets are not exempt but will not be unfairly targeted,” he said.
Film Industry Promises Cooperation
Meanwhile, B. Rakesh, secretary of the Kerala Film Producers Association, stated that the industry is fully committed to supporting the government’s anti-drug efforts. “We’ve officially communicated our willingness to cooperate with authorities in keeping film production spaces clean and safe,” he said.
As the investigation unfolds and Shine Tom Chacko is expected to respond to the police summons, the spotlight remains on the film industry’s role in addressing substance abuse and workplace misconduct.
