Actor Sreeram Held in Chennai Drug Probe, Industry on Edge

The Tamil film industry has been shaken by the arrest of actor Sreeram in a high-profile drug case. Known to both Tamil and Telugu audiences, Sreeram was taken into custody by the Chennai Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) earlier today, following significant leads in an ongoing narcotics investigation.
According to police sources, Sreeram’s name surfaced during the interrogation of suspects previously arrested in the case. Investigators allege that the actor sourced narcotics, including cocaine, from a former DMK leader. Authorities have traced at least 40 alleged purchases by Sreeram, each priced at around ₹12,000 per gram, with total digital transactions exceeding ₹4.7 lakh.
Custody and Drug Testing
After his arrest, Sreeram was brought to the Nungambakkam police station for detailed questioning. Interrogation lasted over two hours, and officials collected his blood samples for toxicology analysis. Police confirmed that next steps will be based on forensic results and other corroborative evidence.
The probe, which has already resulted in the arrest of individuals including ex-AIADMK member Prashanth, has revealed a growing network of drug circulation linked to high-profile names. Sources claim Sreeram was a regular at exclusive private events and clubs in Chennai where drug use was suspected.
Spotlight on Kollywood’s Drug Culture
This development has reignited concerns over substance abuse in the Tamil film industry. Law enforcement officials hinted that more names could surface as the investigation widens. While Sreeram and his legal team have yet to respond publicly, authorities reiterated that all legal proceedings will be guided strictly by evidence.
As the investigation gains momentum, insiders say Kollywood may be heading toward a reckoning — with more stars potentially under the scanner in the days to come.
