Amitabh Bachchan Surpasses SRK as India’s Highest Taxpayer with ₹120 Crore Contribution for FY25

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has emerged as the highest tax-paying actor in India for the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), with a staggering tax contribution of ₹120 crore on his reported earnings of ₹350 crore. According to sources cited by Pinkvilla, the legendary actor made his final advance tax installment of ₹52.5 crore on March 15, 2025, solidifying his position at the top.

Last year, Shah Rukh Khan led the list with a tax payment of ₹92 crore. However, in FY25, Bachchan’s tax contributions surged by nearly 30 percent, pushing him from fourth place to the number one spot. Other top-earning actors in the industry include Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, who paid ₹80 crore in taxes, and Salman Khan, who reportedly contributed ₹75 crore.

Diverse Income Streams: Films, Endorsements, and KBC

Bachchan’s earnings stem from a variety of sources, including blockbuster films, brand endorsements, and his long-standing association with television. The veteran actor recently starred in Kalki 2898 AD, where his portrayal of Ashwathama received critical acclaim. Reports suggest he earned approximately ₹20 crore for the role.

Additionally, he made his Tamil cinema debut in Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth, reportedly earning ₹7 crore for the film. Beyond the silver screen, Bachchan continues to be the face of the immensely popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which remains a significant revenue stream for him.

His remuneration for KBC has increased consistently over the years. In 2017’s season nine, he earned ₹2.9 crore per episode, with subsequent seasons seeing steady increments. By KBC seasons 14 and 15, his per-episode fee ranged between ₹4 crore and ₹5 crore. For KBC 16, which concluded on March 11, 2025, Bachchan reportedly took home ₹5 crore per episode. With registrations for KBC 17 set to begin next month, he is expected to maintain his dominance in the television industry.

A Powerhouse at 82

At 82, Amitabh Bachchan remains one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry. His continued presence in high-profile projects, lucrative endorsements, and long-standing television commitments contribute to his massive earnings. With Kalki 2 set to begin production and multiple projects lined up for 2025, Bachchan’s financial success is expected to continue, potentially keeping him at the top of the highest taxpayers’ list in the coming years.
