Director Krish Opens Up About Ghaati – Anushka Shetty, Vikram Prabhu Starrer Set for September 5 Release

Acclaimed filmmaker Krish Jagarlamudi interacted with the media about his upcoming big-ticket project Ghaati, featuring Anushka Shetty and Vikram Prabhu in lead roles. Produced by Rajeev Reddy and Saibabu Jagarlamudi under the First Frame Entertainment banner and presented by UV Creations, the film is scheduled for a September 5 release.

Origin of Ghaati

Krish described every film he makes as a journey of discovery, and Ghati was no exception. The idea was sparked by a narrative from writer Dr. Chintakinda Srinivas Rao, who introduced him to the world of the Ghaatis—laborers living on the Andhra–Odisha border who transport a rare variety of ganja known as “Silavati.” Intrigued by this raw, untouched backdrop and its cultural depth, Krish decided to build a story around it on a grand cinematic scale.

Casting Anushka Shetty

The director revealed that the idea of crafting a female-driven story came naturally. Having worked with Anushka Shetty earlier in Vedam, he felt she was the ideal choice to embody Silavati. According to Krish, Anushka’s grace, commanding presence, and star power made her perfect for the role. “I told her this performance will rank among her very best, and I’m confident audiences will feel the same,” he said.

A Fictional Tale with Social Relevance

Krish clarified that Ghaati is a fictional story, even though it touches on the subject of ganja smuggling. Rather than glorifying the issue, the film explores broader themes of survival, struggle, and identity. He emphasized that Ghaati is designed as a commercial entertainer with action, scale, and emotional weight, tailored for a star of Anushka’s stature.

Action, Music & Visuals

Explaining the choice of genre, Krish said the intense circumstances of the characters demanded an action-oriented narrative. He praised cinematographer Manoj for capturing the breathtaking beauty and soul of the Eastern Ghats, and lauded composer Sagar for delivering a fresh soundscape that reflects the spirit of the mountains.

Performances & Characters

Krish expressed admiration for the performances across the board. He mentioned that he had envisioned Vikram Prabhu as Desiraju from the beginning and appreciated how the actor not only delivered but also dubbed his own lines in Telugu. He highlighted Chaitanya Rao’s strong turn as the antagonist Kundala Naidu, while also teasing Jagapathi Babu’s role as unique and pivotal. “What you see in the trailer is only a glimpse; the real experience awaits in the film,” Krish remarked.
