India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire, Announces Donald Trump After Intense US-Led Mediation

In a significant development that brings a wave of relief across South Asia, India and Pakistan have officially agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, following high-stakes mediation led by the United States.
The announcement came directly from former US President Donald Trump, who posted the update on Truth Social. Describing it as the result of a “long night” of intense dialogue, Trump said:
“After extended discussions mediated by the United States, I’m happy to declare that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both nations for showing wisdom and strength. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
🔥 Background: Rising Tensions in the Region
This agreement comes in the wake of a deeply disturbing terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives last month. The incident led to severe tensions, with India launching a retaliatory mission named ‘Operation Sindoor’.
As part of the operation, Indian forces struck nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, reportedly neutralizing over 100 terrorists. The operation also targeted key strongholds of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed—groups held responsible for orchestrating the recent violence.
🕊️ A Move Toward Peace
In line with Trump’s announcement, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the agreement, stating:
“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire, effective immediately. Our nation has consistently worked towards peace and regional stability, while upholding our sovereignty.”
The diplomatic breakthrough also received a nod from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who acknowledged the involvement of Vice President JD Vance in the efforts to de-escalate tensions.
“Vice President Vance and I have engaged in continuous dialogue with senior officials from both countries over the past 48 hours. This result is a step in the right direction,” Rubio said.
🌍 Global Relief and Watchful Optimism
This ceasefire is being viewed as a critical de-escalation moment in a region that has witnessed decades of conflict. While the situation remains sensitive, the diplomatic channels remain open, and global leaders are hopeful for a peaceful path forward.
