“Kuberaa is a Different Kind of Film That Demands Guts to Make – It Will Offer a Unique Experience to the Audience,” Says King Nagarjuna

Superstar Dhanush, King Nagarjuna, and national crush Rashmika Mandanna are coming together for the highly-anticipated pan-India film “Kuberaa”, directed by Sekhar Kammula. With a stellar cast and a powerful concept, Kuberaa is shaping up to be a game-changer in Indian cinema. The promotional content released so far has received a phenomenal response. Songs like Poyira Mama, Trance of Kubera, and PP Dum Dum have topped music charts and continue to trend across platforms.
Jointly produced by Sunil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under SVCLLP, in collaboration with Amigos Creations, the film is being made with high production values and a massive budget. Kubera will have a grand worldwide release on June 20, in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Speaking at a press meet, Nagarjuna shared his thoughts about the film and his role:
Why did you agree to be part of a multi-starrer like Kubera?
To bring great stories to life, top stars must collaborate. In the past, my father ANR worked with legends like NTR, Krishna, and Shobhan Babu in many films. It’s essential for actors to come together when the story demands it.
I’ve wanted to work with Sekhar Kammula for a long time. From Anand onwards, we’ve all admired his films. He always blends socially relevant themes with commercial elements and beautiful music, which I personally love.
What makes Kubera unique?
The film presents a highly relevant and unique theme, especially for today’s society. Sekhar has been carrying this idea for a long time. It explores the clash between three sections of society — the ultra-rich, the middle class, and those below the poverty line. That conflict is at the heart of the story.
Tell us about your role in the film.
I play a middle-class CBI officer who is torn between doing what’s right and wrong. It’s a layered character with emotional depth and moral dilemmas. Sekhar wrote it beautifully, and it offers a lot of scope for subtle performance.
Many incidents in the film are inspired by real-life scenarios, which adds authenticity. It’s a performance-driven film.
Dhanush, too, has done an outstanding job. He completely immersed himself in the role.
Did Sekhar make any changes to suit your image?
Not at all. He stuck to his original vision. I didn’t ask for any changes either — modifying the script would’ve taken away its essence.
Did you take inputs from your family, since many of them have worked with Sekhar before?
Yes, I asked Chaitanya about his experience. He told me Sekhar has an excellent working style and assured me I would enjoy the process.
How different is your character from your previous roles?
Very different. My body language, dialogue delivery, and expressions in this film are all in Sekhar’s signature style. We shot mostly in real locations like Tirupati, Mumbai, Goa, and Bangkok, which added depth to the storytelling.
How is Rashmika’s character?
She plays a very entertaining and impactful character. She did a fantastic job. After watching the film, I told her, “You are the star here.” It’s a refreshing role.
Tell us about the producers.
Producers Sunil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao were determined to make a big film with a pan-India vision. They backed the project with complete passion and gave Sekhar everything he needed without compromise. The result is a film of exceptional quality.
What do you think about Devi Sri Prasad’s music?
Music plays a key role in Kubera. The songs are situational and meaningful. DSP delivered a brilliant soundtrack with powerful background music that elevates the emotional beats of the story.
What sets Kubera apart from regular films?
Everything — from the story, screenplay, and character arcs to the narrative structure — is different. There are no typical “hero” or “heroine” roles; every character has weight. It takes courage to do a film like this.
Are you planning your 100th film?
Yes, the planning is in progress. The working title is “King 100”.
You look incredibly fit these days. Any changes in your routine?
Nothing new, actually. I’ve been following the same routine and lifestyle for the past 15 years.
Your thoughts on the pan-India trend?
Pan-India films are tough to make. Not every story fits that format. Just labeling a film as pan-India doesn’t guarantee pan-India appeal.
What’s the status of Shiva 4K?
The 4K restoration is complete. We’re fine-tuning it further for even better effects. I watched a reel — it looks stunning.
Are you doing a film with Sitara or People Media Factory?
I’d love to work with them, but the right project needs to come together first.
What can we expect from your character in Coolie?
In Coolie, I’m playing a completely different role — something I’ve never done before. Lokesh Kanagaraj is a new-age filmmaker with a unique vision. My role is fresh and very exciting.
In conclusion, Kubera is shaping up to be a genre-defining film, blending powerful storytelling, diverse characters, and real-world relevance. With Sekhar Kammula’s vision, an extraordinary cast, and strong production backing, this film promises to deliver a memorable experience on the big screen.
