L2E Empuraan Re-Censored After Controversy – Here’s What Changed

Mollywood megastar Mohanlal and director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-discussed pan-India action drama, L2E Empuraan, found itself at the center of controversy following its theatrical release. Several religious and political groups across the country objected to certain portrayals of real-life incidents and characters, leading to widespread debate.

CBFC Mandates 24 Cuts in Re-Censorship Process

In response to the backlash, the makers of L2E Empuraan voluntarily submitted the film for re-censorship. Following a review, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) recommended 24 cuts, reducing the film’s runtime by nearly 2 minutes. The edited version removes all controversial scenes and signages, including a “thanks” card dedicated to senior Malayalam actor and BJP MP Suresh Gopi.

The revised version of L2E Empuraan is set to hit theaters across the country starting tomorrow or the day after, ensuring a smoother run at the box office.

Massive Box Office Success

Despite the controversy, L2E Empuraan has emerged as a box office juggernaut, grossing over ₹200 crore globally. The film serves as a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, which also starred Mohanlal in a powerful role.

Apart from Mohanlal, the ensemble cast features Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Abhimanyu Singh in prominent roles. Backed by Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran Allirajah, and Gokulam Gopalan, the film boasts a high-budget production that delivers gripping action and political intrigue.

With the revised version now rolling out in cinemas, fans can experience L2E Empuraan without the controversy surrounding its initial release.
