Nag Ashwin Confirms ‘Kalki 2’ Is in the Works; Shooting to Begin by Year-End

Director Nag Ashwin, the creative force behind the epic mythological sci-fi hit Kalki 2898 AD, made a spiritual stop at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam recently, where he offered special prayers to Lord Balaji in the early hours of Saturday. During a brief interaction with the media, the visionary filmmaker shared an exciting update on the highly anticipated sequel — Kalki 2.

Ashwin revealed that script work for Kalki 2 is progressing rapidly, with plans to kick off principal photography by the end of 2025. Offering a glimpse into what fans can expect, he added that Prabhas’ character, Karna, will enjoy increased screen time in the sequel, which will primarily explore the arcs of Karna and Ashwatthama — two central pillars in the evolving Kalki universe.

This update follows his previous comments during the Yevade Subramanyam re-release promotions, where he hinted at a deeper dive into these characters’ mythological and emotional complexities.

Released in June 2024, Kalki 2898 AD was a cinematic spectacle that blended mythology and science fiction, featuring a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. The film not only received critical acclaim but also smashed box office records, grossing over ₹1,180 crores worldwide.

Produced by Ashwini Dutt under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner and scored by Santhosh Narayanan, Kalki 2898 AD set a new benchmark for pan-Indian cinema. Now, with Kalki 2 officially in the pipeline, the excitement surrounding this universe is set to soar even higher.
