SRK & Kajol Unveil Bronze Statue of Raj–Simran in London’s Leicester Square to Mark 30 Years of DDLJ

In a historic moment for Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol revealed a stunning bronze statue celebrating their iconic characters Raj & Simran from Aditya Chopra’s legendary film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). The unveiling took place at Leicester Square, London, commemorating the 30th anniversary of Yash Raj Films’ timeless blockbuster.

First Indian Film Honoured With a Statue in Leicester Square

The newly installed statue marks a major milestone, becoming the first-ever Indian film representation at Leicester Square—joining global cinematic icons like Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Paddington, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more.

The sculpture captures Raj and Simran in an iconic pose, symbolising the everlasting charm of one of the longest-running films in Indian cinema history. Notably, DDLJ even featured Leicester Square in a memorable scene where Raj and Simran unknowingly cross paths during their European journey.

A Star-Studded Unveiling Ceremony

The event saw the presence of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, and Heart of London Business Alliance Chief Executive Ros Morgan, making it a grand celebration of DDLJ’s global legacy.

SRK’s Emotional Message

Speaking at the ceremony, Shah Rukh Khan reflected on the film’s enduring magic:
“DDLJ was made with a pure heart… It’s part of my identity, and to see this love continue for 30 years is incredibly humbling.”

He expressed gratitude to the people of the UK and shared this honour with Aditya Chopra, the cast, and the entire YRF team.

Kajol on the Film’s Timeless Appeal

Kajol described the moment as deeply nostalgic:
“Watching the statue being unveiled felt like reliving our history… This honour will stay forever in the hearts of DDLJ fans worldwide.”

A Film That Redefined Romance

Released in 1995, DDLJ tells the heartwarming tale of Raj and Simran, two NRIs whose European adventure leads to one of cinema’s most beloved love stories. Over the decades, the film has become a cultural phenomenon, influencing generations across the globe.

Continuing Legacy in the UK & Beyond

DDLJ’s influence is so prominent that even President Obama has referenced it, and a stage adaptation titled Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical recently ran in Manchester.

YRF’s Proud Moment

YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani shared:
“Seeing DDLJ immortalised in Leicester Square is an extraordinary honour… This recognition inspires us to keep telling heartfelt Indian stories to the world.”
