Thandel: A Love Story Lost in a Sea of Melodrama – Review
“Thandel,” starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, is a Telugu action-drama that attempts to blend a love story with a patriotic narrative. Directed by Chandoo Mondeti and produced by Bunny Vasu under the Geetha Arts banner, the film released worldwide on February 7th, 2025.
The film follows the story of Raju (Naga Chaitanya), a fisherman from Srikakulam who inadvertently crosses the border into Pakistan while fishing. Separated from his love, Satya (Sai Pallavi), Raju faces numerous challenges in a foreign land while trying to return home.
Naga Chaitanya delivers a commendable performance as Raju, showcasing his emotional range and physical transformation for the role. Sai Pallavi is equally impressive as Satya, portraying her character’s strength and unwavering love with conviction. The supporting cast also delivers decent performances.
However, the film’s uneven screenplay and direction prevent it from reaching its full potential. While the premise is promising, the execution falters with predictable plot points and over-the-top melodramatic sequences. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is a saving grace, adding emotional depth to the narrative. The cinematography is visually appealing, capturing the scenic beauty of Srikakulam and the harsh realities of the Pakistani jail.
